In traditional Chinese medicine,Lonicera japonica is called ren dong teng(Chinese:literally "winter enduring vine") or jin yin hua (Chinese:literally "gold silver flower").Alternative Chinese names include er hua and shuang hua. In Korean, it is calledgeumeunhwa. The dried leaves and flowers(Flos Lonicerae Japonicae) are employed in traditional Chinese medicine, being used to treat fever, headache, cough, thirst and sore throat.
Honey suckle is a plant that is sometimes called "woodbine." The flower, seed, and leaves are used for medicine. Be careful not to confuse honey suckle with other plants that are also known as woodbine, such as American ivy, gelsemium, and Clematis virginiana.

Honey suckle (Lonicera japonica) has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for many years, but only recently by western herbalists.
Honey suckle is used for digestive disorders including pain and swelling (inflammation) of the small intestine (enteritis) and dysentery; upper respiratory tract infections including colds, influenza, swine flu, and pneumonia; other viral andbacterial infections; swelling of the brain (encephalitis); fever; boils; and sores. Honey suckle is also used for urinary disorders, headache, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer. Some people use it to promote sweating, as a laxative, to counteract poisoning, and for birth control.
Honeysuckles (Lonicera, syn. Caprifolium Mill.) are arching shrubs or twining vines in the family Caprifoliaceae, native to the Northern Hemisphere, mainly in China. Widely known species include Lonicera periclymenum (European Honeysuckle or Woodbine), Lonicera japonica (Japanese Honeysuckle, White Honeysuckle, or Chinese Honeysuckle) and Lonicera sempervirens (Coral Honeysuckle, Trumpet Honeysuckle, or Woodbine Honeysuckle).
